Adobo Festival Sacramento 2010

Adobo Festival Sacramento 2010

The Adobo Festival here in Sacramento was a 2 day event (August 21-22, 2010) at the William Land Park of Sacramento. The shades of the trees made it really a nice place to enjoy the entertainment and booth vendors and it kept the venue relatively cool.

This is the first of the many to come Adobo Festivals for Sacramento. Adobo Festivals has been around the Greater Bay Area for many years and something that the Filipino-American Community enjoys.

Adobo Festival is organized by JS Camins Production. JS Camins Production is also planning to do a Christmas Event come December here in Sacramento and Joe S. Camins, founder of the Company is envisioning big things for the event like a Parol Parade and much much more.

JS Camins Production was founded in 1992 and its primary goal is to promote the best of the Filipino Community to the rest of the world. For more information about JS Camins Production visit: http://www.pinoyparinkami.com/

Filipino Fiesta of Sacramento Dinner

The organizers of the Filipino Fiesta of Sacramento hosted dinner at Max's of Manila, Sacramento last night (August 20, 2010). To me, it was nice to finally put a face to the names that I did come across often during the Fiesta especially to Cora Emery who had been in correspondence with me during and after the event. I am also grateful to her for inviting me to the dinner, it was such a great honor!

The Filipino Fiesta of Sacramento 2010 was made possible by six (6) major non-profit organizations, Filipino Community of Sacramento & Vicinity, Inc (FCSV), Filipino-American Veterans Association, University of the Philippines Alumni Association, Sinag-Tala Filipino Performing Arts Association, Filipino-American Womens Club (FWC) and the Ilocanos of America.

The organizers of the event was also thankful to the sponsors that supported financially and to those that voluntered their time.

Tom Amaba of American Legion Post 604, Mina Guerra, the reigning Mrs.Philippines, Noel Rominque, Editor In-Chief-Philippine Headlines, Jinky Dolar of Crossings and Will Stallworh with June from Triple A were among the guests of the dinner last night.

The food that was served by Max's was really great especially that they had served my favorite, chop suey but I enjoyed most the company. The accomodation was really warm and everyone was very nice and friendly. Thank you and More Power!--MaG

A Surprise Birthday Party for Nanay Rufina Mendoza of CHEAP TIRE

We got invited tonight to what I would call a true old school Filipino Family Party, Nanay Rufina Mendoza of CHEAP TIRE's (Marconi Ave, Sacramento)
Surprise Birthday Party.
Nanay Rufina recently lost her beloved husband, the late Mang Eric Mendoza who owned and managed CHEAP TIRE.
Mang Eric was always the businessman of the family and Nanay supported him as the perfect wife and mother to their kids...so when she lost Mang Eric it was overwhelming for Nanay Rufina. But thanks to her family and very close friends she got all the support she needed.
Tonight, her kids and close relatives had thrown a surprise birthday party for her that I saw brought so much joy to her... There were several home cooked traditional Filipino dishes served like ihaw na baboy (grilled pork), ihaw na bangos (grilled milk fish), sweet and sour fish, pancit (noodles) and many others. Her kids and close relatives worked together to put this happy occassion. Some did the grilling, some did the cooking inside and some served. It was such a Filipino family thing that I felt like back home..and I know Nanay was also very happy.
I met several very good friends of Nanay too whom she said has been around for years helping them and supporting them in the business and yes, they too are Filipino. Angelito Chua their Certified Public Accountant from Greenhaven and Edwin Navarro, Ace Wholesale Auto Supplies (their business supplier).
Joselito (LITO) Mendoza, son of late Mang Eric Mendoza and Nanay Rufina Mendoza is now managing CHEAP TIRE and always grateful for the friends and family that has supported him through the whole transition and still around now.
To Nanay Rufina Mendoza, happy happy birthday! May many more years to come!--MaG

"My love for jewelry has inspired me to start a c ompany that provides limited edition, high quality handmade jewelry. In my search for unique materials, I fell in love with nature and recycling. Thus, Eco-Style Collection was born. Eco-Style Jewlery highlight the use of small wood shells thar are abundant are usually thrown away in the Philippines. By working closely with a friend who started livelihood program for the wives and widowers of fishermen in a small island town in the Philippines, I was able to have uniquely handcraftednenvironment friendly beads for my creations. At the same time, had the opportunity to help those really talented yet impoverish women. Each eco-bead used in this collection is pure labor of love and is fairly traded.
